Assessment of thermo-hygrometric environment of historic museum building in Constantine-Algeria

Abstract Assessing the indoor microclimate of heritage and historic buildings is important to preserve them their contents study decay damage processes. This aims evaluate thermo-hygrometric environment, its impact on exhibited objects visitors’ comfort an old Ottoman Palace (Ahmed Bey) converted into a museum. The National Museum Traditional Arts Cultural Expressions-Ahmed Bey Palace-is located in Constantine, North East Algeria, characterized by semi-arid climate. building has internal courtyards does not have HVAC system. most critical parameters been calculated assessed exhibition’s permanents rooms using HD32.3 datalogger during winter period from January March 2019. measured data were compared acceptable values suggested Italian Standard UNI 10829 for artefact preservation corresponding external outdoor conditions. results show that interior conditions exhibition are mainly dependent climatic air temperature out range, while relative humidity higher than values. Thus, monitoring reasonably kind thermal visitors.
